Timing is everything. I decided to take a new employee on a tour of two of the nursing facilities that he would be working in starting in the summer. We went to Kinston first and though time was tight, we went to Snow Hill as well. There's always a reason for everything. Leaving the Snow Hill facility, someone called my name and I looked down in the bushes in front of the porch and rocking chairs and there was Sadie. She looked up and immediately came to me. The staff said she had been hanging around for several weeks and one of the resdients had been feeding her, but that resident had left. They asked if I knew what was wrong with her eyes. She had prolapse of the third eyelid on both sides. She was a bit frail, but friendly and drawn to people, especially the older ones on the front porch. Melissa, one of the therapists, said she had taken another kitten home previously and couldn't take another. Sadie just couldn't be left there. Before I knew it, Melissa had a box and a towel, fresh from laundry, and Sadie was on her way to Greenville. I stopped in our Greenville office and picked up Kathy Heath who helped accompanied us to Tenth Street Animal Hospital. The staff was helpful, but didn't have all good news. She was healthy, but was positive for Feline Leukemia. Having three furry children at home already, I couldn't take Sadie home and risk infecting them. Dr. Hubbard suggested I contact Marley Fund. Joy Eubanks called back promptly and things were set into motion. I am pleased that there are people like Joy who have a passion for animals with special needs. Sadie will make a great companion for someone looking a sweet, loving lap cat.

Yes, that’s right, my name is Jet Li! Named for my combination of my awesome looks, action-packed love-giving, and my Siamese routes. You see I am a Snoeshow kitty--look that up--makes me special and rare! I am about 2-years-old and traveled here from Charlottesville, Va, from the SPCA there. I came in with a crew of about 12 or so that tested FeLV positive. We lived in crates in a huge storage area until I was transported to the Marley House for safety with 3 of my other buds. Hey, cool is my middle name and being your buddy is my game! Call and ask for me, Jet Li at 252.215.0925! We could soar through life together!Note: Jet Li is a carrier of the feline leukemia virus and needs a very special home. There are no symptoms to FeLV; therefore Jet Li looks and acts just as a regular kitty, but with so much more purrrr-sonality! He just can't be in a household with other cats, for fear of giving the virus to them. He must be keep indoors away from other cats. FeLV is not contagious to humans or dogs. Please consider adopting this sweet baby. He is so loving. For more information, please contact Marley Fund at 252.215.0925 or visit www.marleyfund.com. Gershwin's Story from his Independent Rescuer. He is in Marley Fund care now and doing so well. My Tale: I met Gershwin late one night as I drove away from the Florida hospice where my dad spent the last few days of his life. It was dark and I was tired. Tears were streaming down my face and I almost didn't see him dart across the parking lot right in front of me. I stopped the car and ran to him, so afraid he'd been hit. He sat there looking at me, this big, beautiful, blue point Siamese cat and I couldn't help wondering how he ended up in this lonely parking lot out in the middle of nowhere. He wasn't afraid of me but wouldn't let me pick him up and it was all I could do to get back in the car and drive away. I said a prayer for him and one for my dad and headed towards town. As I approached the main road there was a tangle of broken cars and flashing lights blocking my way. Had I not stopped to check on the cat, I would have been right in the middle of this terrible crash. He literally had saved my life and I decided then and there...I would do everything I could to save his. I'm a volunteer with The Siamese Cat Rescue Center and was determined to use my "know-how" to do just that. My dad lingered in hospice for a week and everyday he would ask about my latest adventure trying to catch this elusive blue boy. It seemed to give him something to look forward to each day as I'd describe my latest attempt. The grounds of the hospice were quite beautiful in that wild, chaotic, tropical look that is Florida. I didn't think following the cat into the underbrush was a problem until one day one of the nurses screamed at me..."Don't go in there, they pulled a 4 foot alligator out of there!" and my reply ,"Oh, and I'm only wearing sandals" earned me the name of "that crazy cat lady" for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, my dad passed away and I was forced to leave without accomplishing my mission. I cried all the way home to Virginia, for my dad and this beautiful cat who deserved a second chance. Before I left, I contacted every pet shop, veterinarian, and rescue in the area, hoping someone would help. I couldn't help thinking this cat had been there for me. He saved me from the car accident. He comforted me with his antics while evading my every attempt to catch him. He gave me hope when I was hopelessly dreading the death of my father. Seven months passed and I heard nothing. I had given up hope when the call finally came. The cat had disappeared shortly after my dad's death and was nowhere to be found. How ironic the call came as plans were being made for a belated memorial service for my dad. All the hurt and pain was fresh in my memory and again the sadness I'd felt leaving this beautiful cat behind. When asked if I was still interested in helping, of course, I said yes. I found a local group that trapped him, made arrangements for his testing, neuter and shots. My worst nightmare came true when he tested + for both FIV and FeLV. I franticly searched for advice, answers to my many questions, help. I would have taken him into my arms and held him forever but it wouldn't have been fair to my other kitties or to him. That's when I learned about a wonderful place called the Marley House. They said yes and Gershwin's adventure began. Thanks to volunteers from several rescue organizations, he was transported from central Florida all the way to North Carolina. Gershwin and I are forever indebted to the loving, generous, dedicated, volunteers that made this incredible journey possible. Special thanks to "Feline Folks" for lovingly caring for him while I searched for his forever home. We will never forget you. Lori Anderson and Gershwin, my "Rhapsody in Blue"

Earnhardt is a flirtatious little kitty. He’s always sending a cute wink your way! Even so, he does get a little shy some times, but is really receptive to attention once he’s been fully integrated into the family. He’s originally from Bayboro, NC and was malnourished and small as a kitten when he was found. He’s now healthy except for a small ulcer on his eye.
